Student Welfare Office is an important component of college or any institution. It plays vital role in assisting students to get their problems solved. Student Welfare Officer (SWO) will support students with safeguarding and/or welfare issues, to ensure that they are successful in conducting their programs. SWO is the first staff member to be approached by students with problems of a non-academic nature (mainly). Hence, the Head of the Institution or Principal will appoint any one of permanent faculty members based on his or her experience as Student Welfare Officer to assist students. SWO will assist Principal in organizing an “Induction program” for fresh students, Parents Meet, Academic Programs such as seminar competitions, Education Trips conducted by few departments as a part of curriculum. SWO will link the students with Non - Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and provide an opportunity for students to take up social activities or similar events.
This helps students to understand social, economic problems faced by society and will turn them into responsible citizens, in future. SWO helps in organizing campus interviews in association with placement officer of the college. SWO gives required guidance to eligible students, to get various Scholarships, offered by Government and Non- Governmental funding agencies. SWO helps all students to open their saving bank account by giving the required introduction.
Students always approach SWO to get their documents attested, as attestation by SWO is very much needed while applying for scholarships, exams, jobs and for other higher level courses. In this college, SWO is the member of selection committees for admission to both boys and girls hostels. During extraordinary situations like Covid-19 pandemic, the SWO bridges the gap between stake holders and college administration, and hence helps all students get proper medical care. Thus, SWO will connect and build a rapport with a wide range of stakeholders and respond appropriately to their needs.
