All the faculty members have supervised the M.Sc. (Physics) project work done by PG students of the department. Most of the faculty members in the Department are active in research, in addition to their teaching duties. Dr. G. H. Malimath and Dr. Blaise Lobo are recognized by the KUD as Ph.D. guides, working in the areas of fluorescence spectroscopy and materials science (polymer physics), respectively. They have already guided four students (two each) successfully for the Ph.D. degree, and several students (eight students) are working towards their Ph.D. degree under their guidance.

    The faculty members of the department (Dr. Blaise Lobo and Dr. Geeta Chavan) have successfully completed Major and Minor research projects funded by the University Grants Commission, and at present, two of them (Dr. Smt. Nirupama J. M. and Dr. Smt. Reshma Nesargi) are implementing minor research projects using start - up funds from KUD.

    The faculty members of the Department of Physics routinely attend National and International Conferences to present their research work. They also have attended faculty development programmes to update their knowledge and skills, both for teaching and research. The department always keeps its door open for reach - out activities, and high school teachers in the region have benefited from this. The students of the department are encouraged to engage in extra- curricular activities, like for example, demonstrations using project and experimental work (exhibitions), Seminars, Quiz programs, Debates and Essay writing. Special lectures and workshops are arranged for the benefit of students in the Department by the Einstein Study Circle (the physics study circle of the Department of Physics), which is headed by a faculty member Dr.(smt) Nirupama J M.

    Students who have the necessary aptitude and temperament are encouraged to take up research activities as an extra-curricular project work at the UG level. The faculty of the department extends their services to monitor the practical (laboratory work) in Physics of the pre-university section of the college. The Department has a library with a good collection of books on Physics, Electronics and Computer Science, which is maintained by a lady librarian. The books from the library are issued to students, for home study. In addition, there is a good seating arrangement in the departmental library, using which the students can refer books in the reference section of the Departmental library as well as access the high speed WiFi internet facility available in the department.

    In addition to permanent faculty members, the extra- workload in the department of Physics is handled by teaching assistants (TAs) and guest faculty (GF). For the PG (M.Sc.) course in Physics, there are four TAs, whereas there are two TAs and two GF for UG (Physics), two TAs and one GF for UG (Electronics) and four TAs for UG (Computer Science).
